This listing forum aims to provide you with the relevant and practical information on how you can access equity funding in the Australian capital market. With over 1,000 listed resource companies and a total resource sector capitalisation of over A$340 billion, ASX is the largest capital market for resources in Asia. ASX has provided a platform for raising mining and exploration capital for over a hundred years and is a leading international centre financing projects around the world. The forum will give you an opportunity to ‘ask the experts’ and will cover topics such as:
It is no secret that 2014 was a difficult year for resources, following macro-economic pressures that began with the Chinese slowdown in 2011 and unstable recoveries in the US and Europe. Subdued share prices in metals and minerals stocks were followed by a drop in energy stocks, as the oil price plummeted in the second half of the year. However, some sub-sectors have performed positively. For example, the ASX All Ords Gold index (XGD) is up 17% in the 12 months to 14/01/2015 (and up 46% from its November 2014 low); the Palladium price gained 9%, and reached multi-year highs, in the past 12 months. There are most likely to be investment opportunities in the right sub-sectors in 2015, despite where we are in the resources cycle. Furthermore, there are still 976 sources companies listed on ASX (out of 2,200 listings in total).
ASX is running a session at Mines and Money Hong Kong: ‘IPOs in Australia – ASX Listing Forum’. The session will bring together key advisers, and an ASX-listed company, to discuss the benefits of listing on ASX, how to execute a capital raising and what it means for the business. For many companies an IPO could be 12 months away or more, but it is advisable to prepare early, for a number of reasons that will be covered in the session. As well as providing regulatory oversight, ASX offers a number of listed company services to facilitate market liquidity and improve access to capital. The ‘ASX Evolve’ program includes investor roadshows and events in Australia and internationally; the ASX Research Scheme, which funds equity research for small and mid caps; and ASX’s official investor relations publication Listed@ASX.
