Monday, November 30 SGS Mineral Services and Society of Economic Geologists Seminar:GEOMETALURGY - APPLICATIONS TO EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTIONGuillermo Turner-Saad, Global Vice President, Metallurgy, SGS Minerals Services Jean M. Richardson, Global Director Marketing, SGS Minerals Services Geometallurgy is a new approach to mineral exploration and production. It integrates aspects of earth and materials sciences to study the relationship between and variability of the physical and chemical characteristics of ore deposits and the response of these factors to specific metallurgical processes.
Internationally used to characterize ore variability, geometallurgy synthesizes aspects of geology, mineralogy, metallurgy, mining, environmental studies, mineral economics and product marketing to create an optimized robust project development solution. This one day course will cover: - the interplay of geology, mineralogy, metallurgy and production - the link between mineralogy and texture and liberation and selectivity - the importance of High Definition Mineralogy in geometallurgy - characterization of ore variability in geomet modeling, mill design and planning - production forecasting, mine planning, cash flow and NPV optimisation
These concepts will be linked using the SGS Geometallurgical Framework 1. Multivariate domain definition using field, geology, mineralogy & geochemical data 2. Sample selection: logistics, requirements and other considerations 3. Parameter determination and testing 4. Geometallurgical model definition 5. Multivariate spatial model generation – applying to the block model or mine plan 6. Joint mining and mineral processing optimization
This course is aimed at geological professionals working in exploration or mines, plant and corporate metallurgists, engineering consultants, financial analysts and students. It will balance theoretical and practical information with case studies. Geometallurgy can help you:• optimise project planning • maximise project value • minimise several of the sources of uncertainty. Attendance is limited.

Tuesday, December 1, 1.50pm Room A, adjacent to the auditorium TSX, Macleod Dixon and CIBC Seminar:CANADIAN CAPITAL MARKETS UPDATESpeakers • Greg Ferron (Senior Manager, Global Mining, Listings, TSX) • David Cobbold (Managing Director, ECM, CIBC) • Janne Duncan (Partner, Macleod Dixon), • Craig Williams (CEO, Equinox Minerals Ltd, Zambian copper producer, dual listed on the TSX and ASX) • PDAC - Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada
Overview The Toronto Stock Exchange is a global leader in mining equity finance, and offers international companies access to growth capital and enhanced liquidity.
2009 has been a record year for equity issuance on the TSX: mining companies have raised over C$16bn through more than 1,200 financings (year to date).
The seminar will discuss the developments in the Canadian markets in 2009, and review opportunities for international companies to access the Canadian markets.
1. The TSX and resource companies
- International — gives access to a deep pool of capital from around the world
- Large peer group – 55% of the world’s public mining companies are listed in Toronto
- Targeted research — large equity research community specializing in mining
- Diverse investor base — strong institutional and retail investor following
- Well governed — internationally recognized corporate governance model (globally accepted NI 43-101 resource reporting standards)
2. An overview of 2009
- Record capital raising by mining companies
- Strong investor demand, particularly in the precious metals sector
- Overview of the M&A activity in the sector
3. How to list on the TSX
- Overview of the four listing methods
- Structuring and legal considerations
- Technical reporting requirements
4. Equinox Minerals Limited – (TSX/ASX-EQN)
- A leading TSX listed copper company, which has raised C$900m on the TSX since its IPO in 2004 to develop the Lumwana copper project in Zambia
- Experiences of dual listing and raising equity capital on the TSX
A Q&A panel and cocktail reception sponsored by PDAC - Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada will follow.
